The Management of Nigeria’s Energy Resources for National Development

The Management of Nigeria’s Energy Resources for National Development examines the origin and nature of the protracted crisis in the preservation of the colonial exploitative economic policies and structures by the Nigerian state; and the state managers’ reliance on political power to accumulate in oil and gas sector and the economy.

The book provides a theoretical context for examining the crisis, looking critically at the nature of
the Nigerian state, its mode of surplus extraction and the consequences for the country’s energy industry. It also looks at the paradox of Nigeria’s huge energy resource endowments; yet the country is one of the worst hit by energy crisis in Africa, paying attention to the mismanagement of oil and gas and poor development of other alternative energy resources.

The book examines policy issues in the context of the nature of the policy design and implementation, the international relations dimension and the legal framework for the development of energy resources. Finally, it proffered alternative strategies for redressing the country’s energy crisis.
